Does this look like your wish list for a weekday breakfast: quick and easy to prepare; portable; delicious and packed with nutritious goodness?
You want some Green Goodness-Me in your life, darling.
I’ve lost count of the number of smoothie recipes I’ve tried. Yet, there are still so many other possible combinations that I just came to shut down mode!
I can’t be asked to try something different every morning. I need time-saving routines and easy shopping lists. So this smoothie recipe was born and it’s my go-to breakfast 4-5 times per week. It’s my favourite combination after lots of experimenting.
I think I can throw this together without engaging my brain – which helps if you’re trying to feed the kids and get them out of the door in 20 minutes (without forgetting the swimming kit, ballet kit, PE kit, old carton boxes for the latest school project, and that return package to drop by the post office – probably leggings?!).
A quick note about blenders. There is only one blender in my life – that’s the Nutribullet. If you’re even remotely serious about your smoothies, get one. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I have one of these , it’s not the top of the range so it’s a cheaper version – but works perfectly. Don’t hesitate, it’s worth every penny.
So, on to the Green Goodness-Me super heros:
- Spinach: My favourite dark leafy green for its flavour, anti-ageing properties, rich vitamin content and cancer prevention
- Kefir: Gut loving fermented milk, delivers zillions of friendly bacteria to your gut and helps keep your immune system in top shape. I buy this one.
- Blueberries: Low GI fruit, powerful anti-ageing and cancer prevention
- Flax seeds: For the extra fiber to keep you going for longer, for the anti-inflammatory Omega 3 and cancer prevention
With this smoothie you’ll be hitting the ground running getting greens in your body first thing in the morning. You’ll be giving your skin and gut extra love. You’ll be full of energy and feeling super virtuous too, which is a great motivation to make the right food choices throughout the day.
It may very well be enough to keep you going until lunchtime, which also helps if you’re working towards that healthy weight goal (see here how I didn’t say: “hey, if you want to lose weight, drink this!” Really clever.)
Have I mentioned this smoothie includes some of the most potent cancer busting foods on earth?! Hum, probably.
So get blending, darlings!
